I spent many years as a choral conductor and composer, and I enjoy applying what I learned from a well-crafted choral piece to my work with clay. I consider flow, proportion, structure, beauty, and simplicity for each piece. In my work recently, I’ve been exploring raised, stamped textures on hand-built slab pieces as well as carved floral designs on wheel-thrown work. I also love the translucent qualities of clay and how light interacts with a piece, either through thin porcelain, clear glazes, or tiny holes. I lean towards light colors like soft whites, neutrals, pastels, or the natural color of the clay itself.
